Before the event, we received some medical training on how to handle the most common cases of medical care, such as hypothermia and cycling-related injuries.
This was one of the first times I had attended a sports event of this size.
Dealing with athletes and having the opportunity to observe and briefly talk to the athletes who finished in first, second, and third places in the male category right after they completed the Ironman was a great experience.

Rocket.Chat was one of the 172 mentoring organizations for GSoC 2023.
What's the program?
Google Summer of Code (GSoC) is an online global initiative that aims to introduce new contributors to the world of open source software organizations.
The idea for the Summer of Code came directly from Google's founders, Sergey Brin and Larry Page.
Since its inception in 2005, GSoC has been primarily focused on inviting university students to participate in the program. However, beginning in 2022, they have expanded the program to welcome all beginner contributors who are 18 years or older to apply as GSoC Contributors.
Throughout the program, GSoC Contributors receive guidance and support from mentors who assist them in every aspect of the process. This includes learning about the community, familiarizing themselves with the code base and testing practices, and ultimately releasing their code for public use.
What's my project?
Our idea was to integrate Rocket.Chat to the blockchain trough the incorporation of tokens to teams channels in order to give even more data ownership for end users. Rocket.Chat is sponsoring many different ideas.
Out of the 17 Rocket.Chat participants (15 of these who were partially or fully participating as mentors) I was the only mentor coming from the Marketing department and one of the 2 only ones who are coming from teams outside of product and engineering.

Before the event I helped the organization to promote the event in social media (LinkedIn), among friends and in my university.
During the event I was a speaker in the Blockchain Talks and Blockchain Insider stages in the 1st edition of the Blockchain Rio Festival.
These were my first talks at an in-person event as a guest, so my presentations were far from the best. I forgot what to say many times, which taught me that planning my speech before going to the event is a good idea 😂.

For this short period of time I helped the staff to organize the place and kept the elderly company. For me it was shocking to see such a different world inside of an assisted living facility.
